Start - The Rabbit Hole
| There’s been a newspaper article in the local press about an English professor who is trying to set up time travels, uptil now he has been unsuccessful. The scientist declared in an interview that you could start this travel from any part of the world. According to his latest research there are two or three such starting points and thus he has to travel as well, because he needs to try all of these starting points. He will arrive in Veszprém. There was a club about media studies from this year September at the Báthory School, which aroused children’s interest. They are looking for a journalist, a photographer and a group of TV analists. They’re looking for children who can write very well and also they’re very interested in the world around them. Three good friends immediately reached out for the leader of the media club. From this person they were very happy to learn they can be part of the group and they also can get prepared for the first assignment. The students found very soon an interesting subject to research. They have read an article in the newspaper about this professor who was interested in making this time travel. They decided they would go to the university in Veszprém and they would make an interview with this Dr. James Cleverhead for the local school newspaper. They were very happy that their teacher would also give her permission.

1. Fourteen days before the start of the game three children, a boy and two girls as guests are to arrive at class 6.C in order to take part in the form-master’s lesson. They are from a nearby village and they would like to get acquainted with the life of a school in town. 2. The children in the class give a surprise gift to the guests, all three of them get an enamel picture as a souvenir and as a sign of their friendship. These gifts are made by two pupils from the class. 3. Twelve days before the start of the game the form-master announces that the three children are to spend a longer period of time, more exactly two days with the class from the next week. They have to organize the sitting order during the lessons, they have to select who will wait for them at the entrance, who the hosts will be whose task is to see the three kids around and show them everything. The form-master informs the teachers about the arrival of the three kids, and she asks one of her pupils to send the timetable of the class for the next two school days in an e-mail to the following e-mail address: csipolino95@freemail.hu that the guests should be informed and could prepare for these days. One of the girls gets an answer to her e-mail address from the guest girls: „Hi. We’d like to thank you for the programmes. We are sending you a coded writing that we should write letters to one another, because Ádám sticks his nose into everything, he reads our letters and we are fed up with him. See you next week. Bye: Liza and Dia.” One of the boys gets an answer to his e-mail address from the guest boy: „Hi. I could get the girls’ secret code. I am sending it to you. They want to leave me out of everything. Hide it carefully, so we will be able to read all of their letters. See you later. Ádám.” The reason why these three kids are coming: the guest children have started a club about media studies at their school and they have received a task to get acquainted better with the children in town, their customs, the life of school in town. And all these are because the first introduction has turned out well, and there will be a great event about which they have to write a report. 4. Five days before the start of the game: two pupils are standing at the entrance of the school and waiting for the guest kids, BUT THEY WILL NOT ARRIVE. The form-master calmes the children – something must have happened and that’s the reason why they couldn’t come. She suggests that they should be patient and wait 15 more minutes, but if they even do not come then, she will have to call the sender school. The guest kids are not coming in 15 minutes, so she has to telephone. She is informed about the failure of the three kids’ setting out from the sender school, but if it is possible the form-master and her class should welcome them the next day. 5. Four days before the start of the game: THE GUESTS ARE NOT COMING. The form-master gets a telephone call which informs her that the children, Liza, Dia and Ádám won’t able to come this week. 6. Three days before the start of the game: A policeman appears in the school, he looks for the class that received guests during the week. He speaks both to the form-master and the headmaster, too. He talks to the children in the class and interrogates them about the three children: Did they say something? Did they send an answer to the letter? If they did, what is there in it? He tells the children that nobody knows where the three children can be, there is no trace of them. He asks the children in the class in the interests of the investigation if any of them were aware of some information, let them not tell anyone. He gives a telephone number to the class on which he is always reachable and the children can send SMS to him or call him any time, because even the smallest, the most unimportant thing can be important. This day two kids from the class get an interesting SMS: (An URL of a news site a false article on an archeology find.) It is Liza, please hel… On Saturday morning before the start of the game-week all the children in the class get an SMS to their mobile phones: „Check your e-mails, please!!! We have written a letter to you. Yours: Liza” In the evening: „It is the Puppet Master here. The guest children contacted me, because they were not able to reach you. From this time on the messages will be delivered by me. Do not tell anyone, because you would risk the mission. Keep in touch, stay near your e-mails.” The content of the Sunday e-mail: “It is the Puppet Master here. I’ve got a new message for you. We are meeting on Monday morning at 8 o’clock at the school assembly. Contact everybody in the class, don’t forget about the ones who have not Internet access. Call the next pupil after you in the register that he/she should get this message. Good night.” In the morning a postal package is waiting for them. The package is an ordinary postal parcel. Sender: eMapps. On the parcel the following text is written: unpack it immediately! Content: mobile phones, PDAs, GPS-s and a piece of paper with a message on it: Locality: the library of the school.
Guardian angels:Team 1 Zsuzsa Passwords to the desktops in envelopes addressed to ech of the teams. The library has been equiped with the devices. The two supervisors introduce themselves. After greeting the children and reading the rules of the game everybody takes his/her seat and looks at the desktop of the game. Some information appears on their desktops including a newspaper article and a photo about the professor. | Ádám, Liza and Dia found themselves in an unknown location where a group of hunters were chasing a wonderful animal. The kids suddenly decided to go after this group of hunters to find out where they are and which era. The deer and the men suddenly disappeared before them as if this had been only a vision. But what vision? The figures, the clothing, that deer, oh, it’s impossible! As if the world of Hungarian legends had come to life. At night when they were looking for a place to rest they found a location which had trees and bushes, again they saw the person coming out from the steam who they had met before. He said a forecast and suddenly he disappeared again. They had not recognized the shaman, but his voice was very familiar. The children realized that by getting a magic stone they may get closer to the 21st century. From this time on there was only one aim which directed them and that is to get back to their own time. |
They have to get to know what animal is being hunted and who the hunters are.
Avatars: they get a coordinate for solving the task. They have to find the place and contact the managers that they should get to know what to look for. On the base of the information they have to find the wall picture about the Wonder deer (Petł?fi Theatre). They have to take a video and a photo leaning on their literary and historical studies. Managers: they get a runic writing text which they have to solve. And they have to find out what Arany János’s words refer to. |

| The area was full of trees, and in the distance you could see mountains. At the bottom of the mountains there was a broad flat area. Not from them there was a higher elevation, which was surrounded by a broad and rapid brook. This area seemed familiar, but they didn’t know where they were. They could only see from the distance that there were carts, men on horses and people were coming nearer. Their clothing, the chariots, the animals and the arms seemed familiar. They were thinking and they realized that they had seen in their history book the similar arms and clothing were worn by the Hungarians in 896. Well, then these people can only be Hungarians. Are they then in the era of the Hungarian conquest? On a wooden table Liza found a runic writing and that’s why they also thought that this assumption was maybe correct. At night when they were looking for a place to rest they found a location which had trees and bushes, again they saw the person coming out from the steam who they had met before. He said a forecast and suddenly he disappeared again. They had not recognized the shaman, but his voice was very familiar. The children realized that by getting a magic stone they may get closer to the 21st century. From this time on there was only one aim which directed them and that is to get back to their own time. |
They get only one question in the museum: „Where will we be accomodated?” The children have to look for a proper area for the Hungarians to settle down and a pasture for their animals. They get acquainted with the rules of making and building a jurta. Avatars: they get a coordinate for solving the task. Getting to the museum the managers let them know in an SMS or phonecall what to do. They get a question as well: „Where will we be accomodated?” They have to take a video, a photo and a description. Managers: they get a coded message made with runic writing, and part of a picture. They have to solve the text and have to send the picture to their avatars what to look for. |

| Behind the carts there were huge flocks passing beside the control of shepherds and dogs. The three kids were shocked to see these kinds of animals, they were all familiar: Hungarian sheep flocks, gray (Hungarian) cattle herds, Hungarian pig (mangalica) herds, pulis and komondors (Hungarian sheep-dogs) and horses, a lot of horses around them.They were pleased to look around, there were not so many of them nowadays. The kids were excited when the caravan stopped to rest and the Hungarians began to eat. They were invited to taste the food and the fresh milk. At night when they were looking for a place to rest they found a location which had trees and bushes, again they saw the person coming out from the steam who they had met before. He said a forecast and suddenly he disappeared again. They had not recognized the shaman, but his voice was very familiar. The children realized that by getting a magic stone they may get closer to the 21st century. From this time on there was only one aim which directed them and that is to get back to their own time. |
They have to go to the zoo and on the base of the guide they have received they have to look for the native Hungarian species. They have to take a video and a photo about the animal and send in. Managers: they get a piece of a picture on an animal. If they recognize it, they get a guide. They send an SMS or e-mail to the avatars letting them know which animal has to be looked for. Avatars: they get to the zoo on the base of the coordinates given. They have to look for the animal on the base of the information they got before and they have to introduce it with the help of a video, photo and sound recording. |
