Part 3

Behind the carts there were huge flocks passing beside the control of shepherds and dogs. The three kids were shocked to see these kinds of animals, they were all familiar: Hungarian sheep flocks, gray (Hungarian) cattle herds, Hungarian pig (mangalica) herds, pulis and komondors (Hungarian sheep-dogs) and horses, a lot of horses around them. They were pleased to look around, there were not so many of them nowadays. The kids were excited when the caravan stopped to rest and the Hungarians began to eat. They were invited to taste the food and the fresh milk.

At night when they were looking for a place to rest they found a location which had trees and bushes, again they saw the person coming out from the steam who they had met before. He said a forecast and suddenly he disappeared again. They had not recognized the shaman, but his voice was very familiar. The children realized that by getting a magic stone they may get closer to the 21st century. From this time on there was only one aim which directed them and that is to get back to their own time.

They joined a family who were looking for good pastures for their animals. This location was rather familiar and they recognized it, they tied to explain that the time from where they come from is called Gulyadomb. They learned about many things: e.g. they learned from the neighboring head of the family how to make a bag plate. They heard again this old strange man of whom they learned that he was the shaman, he was the magician. An unusual, magical message warned them that they should be very aware of him, because he may have revenge against them. The kids started very diligently to take care of this assignment and only after a while they noticed that quite many people from the tribe were standing around them and they were eagerly and interestingly watching what they maybe doing. Their abilities and their diligence were very appreciated and the head of the family gave them a present which was a small stone, which was quite obviously well regarded and highly honored by the people of the tribe. “Maybe this is the stone which the prediction is about”- thought the kids. The shaman was trying to hinder them on their way, but in vain, they could still get it.

The stone at night caused a major panic, because out of its own energy it started to emit light and it was in a small house made out of animal skin called jurta, where they were sleeping. They didn’t dare to sleep close to it. Only then they calm down when the stone also lost its light and became one of those ordinary stones again. They checked everybody and everything, because they were worried that the shaman put a spell on them. But when they found everything in order, they went to sleep. Only in the morning it turned out that during the night the stone moved them across a segment of the time tunnel.

The familiar voice was heard again, but this time they knew this could be only the shaman who murmured to a man: “My lord, your faith is Betereg, this cloak cannot be his, because then we’ll lose everything. The sword, the sword…” The kids did not understand the message, they did not know who the lord was, they only knew that every man disappeared from their vicinity. They were witnesses of a really large battle, and they were taking notes very diligently. Who knows, maybe they can use it at one of the history lessons. They were thinking quite heavily about what the name could be of this location, but one of them suddenly occurred this must be only Sóly. Then the lord of the location cannot be anybody else, but Koppány.

They felt that the shaman was following them. They got a notice from the Monastery of the Greek Nuns that the coronation cloak had been hidden. The people of the shaman were watching the monastery and thus it’s their job to search at the Castle Hill and thus they also found this clothing in one of the cavities of the wall. They gave the cloak to the faithful followers of the king, in exchange they received a copy of the cloak, which when they put it on themselves, emitted so many positive energies which helped in reducing the power of the shaman.

They were little afraid when at night they decided to go to sleep. They felt that the shaman was in their vicinity. Ádám suggested that it would be the best if they were to cover themselves with the cloak, they would grip it to wake up in case somebody wanted to take it away from them. They agreed and now they were calm to go to sleep. They were very cheerful and fresh in the morning, but stepping outside of the lodging they were surprised how much their surroundings was changed. They were sure to realize that during the night they again stepped through quite many years. They were very excited and had lots of energy to search for new assignments, because by this time they realized that they could only reentered their own time period if they produced some useful help for people. They looked around very carefully where they happened to be. They were in a beautiful valley and the quiet was only broken by little noise.

Getting closer they realized that the people were building a monastery. The kids offered their help. The people asked them to get the foundation document, because without it they could not build this monastery for the nuns. The copy of the cloak which they had received offered the kids free entry to the archbishop’s residence. When they said what the aim of their visit was, they did get the foundation document. Their main enemy, the shaman wanted to take it away from them, because the seal opened and closed the door of the building and he could use this seal very well. There was an enormous chase started, but the kids managed to put the seal into the door and with this they also succeed in flying across a few years. The shaman could not follow them and for a while they were free of him. They were very happy and thus quite much braver, because they felt that the power of the shaman was getting weaker, as they finished an assignment. This gave them strength to step further.

They managed to trick the magician again. As if he could not follow them with the same speed as before. By all means they were laughing at the magician, because they knew, they felt that they were getting closer to getting back home. They were studying the foundation document which they got as a present and as they were looking at it, the letters started to dance in front of their eyes. They felt that they took their eyes off the writing for only a second, but when they began to see sharply again, they found themselves in a different environment. They realized that they again jumped once more in time.

They got to King Steven and Queen Gizella’s milling court. An old monk was walking slowly in front of them carrying a massive codex. He dropped it and he didn’t notice that a sheet of paper had fallen out of it. By the time the children would have jumped for it to pick it up from the ground, a troop of dogs got the plunder from before them. They managed to get it back from the dogs with difficulty, but unfortunately only in pieces. Finally they could join the pieces together, and they ran after the monk.

The kids were quite tired as they were walking slowly towards their lodging, when from the other direction of the village they saw big black smoke emerging. Is there something wrong? They ran in the direction of the smoke. When they got closer they saw that they were right: one of the small huts was in flames and the frightened people in every way tried to put the fire out. The three good friends were not hesitant either, in their vicinity they found bags made out of leather and they carried the water from the brook. With their help the fire was soon put out. The tired and dirty people were very thankful to the kids, who noticed that there was a crouching person tied in front of the neighboring hut. The kids asked and they were told that the person who put this hut on fire was angry with the owner of the hut. The man was brought to justice. The villagers asked the ISPÁN that the three helpful kids would be also involved in making the judgement. Dia and her friends were first frightened to get this assignment, but according to the laws of that time they had to make a judgement, which would be lawful and right and as a result the ispán gave them a copy of the scepter as a gift. The shaman from the background was pulling his hair out seeing the scene, because he couldn’t bear that he was not asked to make the judgement. This also let him know that his power weakened dramatically.

When they got to a more pleasant and quiet location, they all wanted to see closer the scepter and the orb. But in the minute when they touched it they felt a very strange feeling, suddenly everything became fuzzy around them and by that time the picture became clear they realized that they were again in a different time period.

The three kids became much more trusting and now they fully started to believe that they managed to get back to the 21st century. They were excitedly expecting the next challenges. Well, they didn’t have to wait for long.

At the king’s court they were preparing for a great festivity.

The children were invited for this festivity, which was a very big honour for them. It was a surprise, because they did not meet such food and spices which the 21st century people use naturally. The shaman did not miss a second used all of his knowledge, because he felt the children became smarter and he felt he was losing his power over them. He offered them an apple in the festivity. Luckily the children put this away with the thought this would be helpful later. In the meantime one of the kids got ill, but because they didn’t have any medicine with them they could rely upon healing plants and the medicinal knowledge of the Hungarians. They were a little afraid to ask the healing woman for some advice in the village, but by the next day Liza got better and so they could calm down. It occurred to them that they did have the apple and they took it out to share it among themselves, but they sadly realized it had been totally changed. From the red patch became the shield, from the stem became a cross and it was shining as if it were made from gold. They were surprised to look at the orb, because they realized it was the symbol of the country. They didn’t know, they only expected that this would be helpful. At this occasion the shaman had unknowingly helped them.

After all these exhausting tasks the three friends went to sleep. They were asleep very quickly. From a distance as if from the bottom of a deep, deep well they heard a very quiet voice: “No, no, no, I can’t let them go.” But in spite of this the children were attracted by a mysterious power as a magnet, ahead in time.

They woke up in the queen’s palace, because they were woken up by lots of movements around. Everybody was running in all kinds of directions, everybody was carrying something. What were they getting prepared for? Dia figured out soon that they were preparing for a feast in honour of Queen Gizella. They decided to play and they form a band to the surprise of the royal household. But with what musical instruments?

The court of the palace was soon filled with a lot of dignitaries, who were gathering around the throne, which was set up in the middle. Soon the royal couple appeared and the crowd started to sit down while cheering them. At the wall of the castle the everyday people (the public) were just amazed to see this much pomp and luxury, they could not have enough of the lot of beauties and glimmer. The everyday people sent their representatives to go in front of the queen and they were bowing when they gave their presents. The kids were standing in the end of the line so that they could give the queen their present. Gizella was so touched by this gesture that she offered a miniature copy of her throne to the three friends.

After the presentation the festivity continued with an enormous dinner. The tables were covered with lots of excellent food and drinks. The court musicians were playing music. Suddenly the master of ceremony requested silence and announced the gift of the musicians: they wrote a song for honour of Gizella. This very pleasant song was so much melodious that the children decided they would learn it too. Liza and Dia were writing notes diligently during the time of the festivity. They decided if they get home they will tell everything in town about the celebration Gizella’s own age, because it can be useful for the organizers of the Gizella Days festivity in Veszprém.

Gizella also wanted to make this day memorable that she gave a copy of the crown to the three kids. The minute when they received the crown they could not resist the temptation and tried it on.

At this time they had an image in front of them: and this was the shaman in his unclear image suddenly moving around and then disappearing with a soft murmur. Suddenly everything disappeared in front of them and they fell asleep. By the time they woke up they were again in front of their computer. At this time the screen was just shifting to 2007. The three kids were very shocked and looking at one another, because they did not understand what was happening. Suddenly they realized that their travel in time ended. Or did they just dream the whole thing? They were about to believe when they realized all the gifts which they had. Well, it was all true. They were the first who became time travellers.

The city declared Dia, Liza and Ádám as a freeman and the whole world was celebrating them as the first time travellers. The professor was very happy and satisfied since it was proven that his invention was working and he invited the kids to show his machine and they were sitting in the first row.

There’s an article which was published in the local press about an English professor who was successful in trying time travels. According to his latest research there are two or three points from where one can start this travel, but for now he will not tell where these locations are. He will arrive in Veszprém very shortly. This article was written by three kids and one can find this article on the second page of the local newspaper.
